  8. »CL1:We  might  as  well  say  it now:  the
  9. future  of  the EC is uncertain.  This
  10. follows  from  what  we  have  written
  11. previously.   We  think  the future of
  12. the  Amiga  scene is uncertain, and is
  13. nearing  a crossroads.  Do we continue
  14. onwards  to  certain extinction, or do
  15. we take a chance, and jump to the next
  16. stage  for  the  Amiga?   We chose the
  17. last, but this does not guarantee that
  18. a  new  scene  will  emerge, and if it
  19. won't,  everything  is  likely  to  be
  20. over,  Amiga scene wise, including the
  21. Eurochart.  So, we really need all you
  22. sceners  to understand the seriousness
  23. of  the  future.   Either you wake up,
  24. get  productive,  and invest in either
  25. an AmigaOne or a Pegasos when it looks
  26. like  these  machines  and  the  firms
  27. behind  them won't flop, or else it is
  28. over,  also  for  the  old  68k scene;
  29. sadly  it  has  no chance of surviving
  30. either  way.   Maybe, if the new scene
  31. gets  big  enough,  there  is room for
  32. nostalgic  68k  productions, just like
  33. there was room for a few nostalgic OCS
  34. productions in the past.

  36. »CL0:In  IRIS,  we will try to work both on
  37. 68k  and  PPC,  never  forgetting  our
  38. roots, and as the first thing, we will
  39. focus  on  a PPC demo.  After that, it
  40. is  time  to  see  whether  there is a
  41. beginning   PPC   scene,  which  looks
  42. sustainable.   We  will  not release a
  43. new  issue  of the EC, unless we think
  44. there is a scene for it, and that this
  45. scene  will continue to grow.  We will
  46. however   try   to   do  what  we  can
  47. ourselves   to  help  this  new  scene
  48. evolve,   and  we  have  no  plans  of
  49. quitting,  or  stopping the release of
  50. the  EC,  if  there  are enough people
  51. willing  to read and support it.  This
  52. is   in  regards  to  the  chart.   In
  53. regards  to  the  magpart  of  things,
  54. there  might be grounds for a mag even
  55. sooner  than there is for a chart.  We
  56. will not rob the scene of the last big
  57. mag,   if   we  are  indeed  the  only
  58. surviving  bigger mag.  Therefore, you
  59. might see something along the lines of
  60. a small mag from us before you see the
  61. chart  again; this mag will be 68k and
  62. PPC  both, naturally.  This depends on
  63. the  need  for  it however.  If, after
  64. e.g.   a  year,  there is still no PPC
  65. scene  of  note, then the EC is likely
  66. dead  for  ever,  but  we  will try to
  67. sustain  the  68k  scene past that, if
  68. possible, with a mag release instead.

  70. »CL1:So,  the  next issue of the EC will be
  71. released,  when  there is a demand for
  72. it,  when there is a fresh, new scene,
  73. when  the  old  scene has changed into
  74. this  new scene.  This can take half a
  75. year,   and   it   can  take  a  year.
  76. However,    the    Genesi    sponsored
  77. democompetition  will  probably be the
  78. most   important  milestone  for  both
  79. AmigaOne  and  the Pegasos, in regards
  80. to  the  scene, and we hope to be able
  81. to release the next EC some time after
  82. that  event,  releasing it on the wave
  83. of   buzz  and  excitement  this  will
  84. hopefully     create.      If     this
  85. democompetition  will not be realized,
  86. or  if  nobody cares about it, I think
  87. the  future for the Amiga scene on new
  88. and old computers is grim.
