- »CL1:We might as well say it now: the
- future of the EC is uncertain. This
- follows from what we have written
- previously. We think the future of
- the Amiga scene is uncertain, and is
- nearing a crossroads. Do we continue
- onwards to certain extinction, or do
- we take a chance, and jump to the next
- stage for the Amiga? We chose the
- last, but this does not guarantee that
- a new scene will emerge, and if it
- won't, everything is likely to be
- over, Amiga scene wise, including the
- Eurochart. So, we really need all you
- sceners to understand the seriousness
- of the future. Either you wake up,
- get productive, and invest in either
- an AmigaOne or a Pegasos when it looks
- like these machines and the firms
- behind them won't flop, or else it is
- over, also for the old 68k scene;
- sadly it has no chance of surviving
- either way. Maybe, if the new scene
- gets big enough, there is room for
- nostalgic 68k productions, just like
- there was room for a few nostalgic OCS
- productions in the past.
-
- »CL0:In IRIS, we will try to work both on
- 68k and PPC, never forgetting our
- roots, and as the first thing, we will
- focus on a PPC demo. After that, it
- is time to see whether there is a
- beginning PPC scene, which looks
- sustainable. We will not release a
- new issue of the EC, unless we think
- there is a scene for it, and that this
- scene will continue to grow. We will
- however try to do what we can
- ourselves to help this new scene
- evolve, and we have no plans of
- quitting, or stopping the release of
- the EC, if there are enough people
- willing to read and support it. This
- is in regards to the chart. In
- regards to the magpart of things,
- there might be grounds for a mag even
- sooner than there is for a chart. We
- will not rob the scene of the last big
- mag, if we are indeed the only
- surviving bigger mag. Therefore, you
- might see something along the lines of
- a small mag from us before you see the
- chart again; this mag will be 68k and
- PPC both, naturally. This depends on
- the need for it however. If, after
- e.g. a year, there is still no PPC
- scene of note, then the EC is likely
- dead for ever, but we will try to
- sustain the 68k scene past that, if
- possible, with a mag release instead.
-
- »CL1:So, the next issue of the EC will be
- released, when there is a demand for
- it, when there is a fresh, new scene,
- when the old scene has changed into
- this new scene. This can take half a
- year, and it can take a year.
- However, the Genesi sponsored
- democompetition will probably be the
- most important milestone for both
- AmigaOne and the Pegasos, in regards
- to the scene, and we hope to be able
- to release the next EC some time after
- that event, releasing it on the wave
- of buzz and excitement this will
- hopefully create. If this
- democompetition will not be realized,
- or if nobody cares about it, I think
- the future for the Amiga scene on new
- and old computers is grim.
-
- »CL0:Until next time, we bid you all a fond
- farewell, and we really hope there
- WILL be a next time for us all.
- Remember: the scene is about
- participation!
